ABRAPA to Introduce Lot-By-Lot Consultant System

Brazil operates bale-level traceability today, with each bale carrying a unique 20-digit code linking it to farm, ginning plant, HVI results and sustainability certifications. The system enables complete transparency through online bale verification and traceability demonstrations that showcase Brazil’s commitment to data-backed integrity.

The proposed “Lot and Bale-by-Bale Consultant System” aims to aggregate results across multiple bales, enabling mills and traders to optimise mixing strategies and sourcing plans. This fills a practical gap between individual bale data and commercial lot procurement decisions. The system would integrate sustainability compliance and fibre benchmarks into lot dashboards for sourcing teams to evaluate both technical quality and ESG credentials before purchase seamlessly.

Lot-level intelligence will help mills reduce trial-and-error, lower waste from mismatched blends, and speed up procurement cycles resulting in improved operational efficiency. Aggregated metrics (contamination rates, average micronaire, staple length distributions, sustainability certificates) for the lot would let buyers meet regulatory and retailer reporting needs more easily.

Building on Brazil’s established digital traceability ecosystem, this upcoming system represents the next step in strengthening data transparency. Stakeholders are encouraged to follow updates from Cotton Brazil and ABRAPA for developments and participation opportunities as the initiative progresses.
